Run 179 - Indian Cliffs

June 17, 2024

The Indian Cliffs subdivision lies off Hwy 3, west of Zimmerman Park.  I doubt that it’s officially within the city limits but it is part of the city and, I assume, that the residents have a Billings mailing address, so I’ll run it.  It has the rimrocks boarding it it on the south, Zimmerman Park nd farmland on the east, and state lands on the north.  The west side drops off to the Ironwood and Country Club subdivisions below.  It really is an island.

Here’s the route map.

I parked in the area designated for accessing state lands.  There was a kerfuffle a few years back where some of the residents of the subdivision objected to people parking in their neighborhood to get to the state lands.  There was a gravel road that looped from the main road to the neighborhood and the residents successfully lobbied the county to close the road.  I understand their concerns and at least now there is a designated parking area.

The trail on to the state lands.

I first headed north on the main road to the intersection with Hwy 3.

There is a snow fence there.

Now I headed back south, into the subdivision.

That small tower is the Omni antenna for the nearby airport.

This trail leads into the west end of Zimmerman Park.

This new house is fairly modern.

Nice landscaping here.

Now it’s just a matter of following the map and enjoying the scenery.

A new home going up.

All to do now is to take the old gravel road back to where I parked.

It was a pleasant run.  Cool and windy.
