Run 042 - West End

March 29, 2023

It was a Wednesday night run with the Rim Runners and since we were meeting up at our 5th Wednesday location, Craft B&B on Grand Ave., and I haven’t run any of the streets on that rout for this project, I didn’t make a map.  And, for some reason, I neglected to take photos.  So here is the information from my phone:

Run 041 - More of Central Billings

March 28, 2023

We had 6-10 inches of snow over the weekend and, luckily, most of what fell on the streets and the sidewalks melted, making today’s run easier than it might have been.  I had to put a map together at the last minute so the route was hardly elegant.  We covered many streets we’ve run on in the past before getting to some new ones on the west end of the map.

Here are some photos I shot along the way.

We were 6.5 miles into the run when we met up with runners from West High.

Here are the stats for today:

Run 040 - East of Downtown

 March2 25, 2023

I almost forgot to make this entry.  It must be another senior moment but at least I have the documentation to remind me.  It was a Saturday morning so that meant to meet up at the Y with the Rim Runners.  Because of the storm blowing through, it was a small group and Shelley was the only one who wanted to run my plan.

It snowed overnight and there is much more predicted to be coming but there wasn’t much of anything coming down and most of what had already fallen on the streets and sidewalks had melted.  Here’s the map we went by.

The route takes us from downtown through the largely industrial area to the county fairgrounds and back. Some photos:

That last photo is at 6 Ave N. And N. 10th.  It was only a few hours later that right there was a major law enforcement activity with a chase ending there, a standoff, and the death of the perpetrator.  As I told Shelley, we only run through the best parts of town.

At least our run was uneventful.  Here’s the stats for the run, and a video.

Run 039 - Some of the Southside

March 22, 2023

It was another Wednesday night Rim Runners run and I had Shelley, Val, and Brad willing to veer off the usual route and run the 5-mile course I’d mapped out.

It wasn’t the most efficient route but it did check off quite a few streets between downtown and South Park.  The Southside gets a bad rep which, IMO, is completely unfounded.  I’ve run in these neighborhoods for years and it’s no different from other parts of Billings.  OK, I’ll admit that I see more “No Trespassing” signs and pit bulls but other than that, it’s just more houses and lots of funky designs.

Here’s a slew of photos I shot, in no particular order.

An undercover/unmarked police care making a stop.

Buts in a crack.

For the wannabe auditors, here are the stats:

Run 169 - North and east of Primrose Park in the Heights

April 30, 2024 It was a beautiful morning after a light rain over night.  Shelley and I met up at Primrose Park at 6 am to work on this map:...
