Run 156 - Icy run in the Heights

March 23, 2024

As it’s a Saturday, a 6.2 mile route is on the agenda.  Shelley and I texted back and forth and agreed to meet at the north parking lot of Castlerock Park at 7am.  The drive there was telling as the windshield started freezing up and the roads looked slick.  There was a mist of some kind in the air.

The route is a continuation of where I left off earlier in the week.

Like I’ve commented before, running in the Heights is less than exciting.  It’s pretty much all suburbia and not much exciting architecture to spice things up.  The big excitement today though was avoiding the almost invisible ice that had formed on the sidewalks.  It was really slick so we stayed in the streets where we had a little better footing.  Some photos from along the way.

We finished up with just short of our usual 6.2 miles.

Shelley is training for a half marathon and her training schedule has her running a 12-miler today so her plan is to continue on for another 6 miles.  I’d suggested a route that would take her out and back on Wicks to Alkali Creek Road and then a loop around Governors, Babcock, and back on Wicks.  She decided to do that and I decided to get in the first mile with her.  That took me west to just past Harvest Church.  The bike trail is asphalt so not as icy as concrete but there were some spots to avoid.  Here’s a couple photos I shot along the way.

Here’s are the stats for this add-on run.
