Run 114 - On the Ponderosa

September 16, 2023

It’s a Saturday morning group run with the Yellowstone Rim Runners.  I showed up.  Shelley showed up.  The walkers showed up.  That was it.  But I came prepared with a map so Shelley and I drove to our usual spot on the Southside behind Newman School and got going.  The map:

We got going but Shelley had to do a lacing adjustment.  This is not uncommon for me either.  You think you have the lacing just right and after a couple block it just doesn’t feel right.

Looking east on King.

Heading into the neighbor that wraps around Ponderosa Park.

The park.

We encountered corgi puppies.

The east end of Ponderosa Park.

I think protect a post.

What’s the difference between “No Parking” and “Absolutely No Parking?”

This is the field behind Ponderosa School.  There is a bike path that wraps around it.

I like yard art.  This one looks just like a log.

We were headed east and the bike path going west has a sign on it.  I wondered what it was.

Well, how cool is that?  The parks department is planting fruit bearing trees so people can have some fresh fruit.

Some sameness on this street.

Gotta love this.

When the lines on the street don’t get your attention, maybe these will.

This is a pretty fancy fence for a retention pond.

This stream flows to the Yellowstone River in Riverside Park near where the old Washington Bridge was.

This is the end of Washington.  Before the freeway was put in, it continued to the Washington Bridge across the river.

No paving here.

They like trucks.

We saw these horses and when they saw us they came over for some attention.

When we got back we walked to the corner of Newman and Stone to look at this tree,  (Photos courtesy of Shelley.

We had seen it before on several other runs and wondered what it was.  As it turned out, the owner was enjoying a cup of coffee on the porch and informed us that it is a chestnut tree, however, the nuts are not edible.

That wrapped up the run.  We really enjoy running in this part of town.  There are lots of variations from house to house and street to street.  Here are the stats.
