Run 078 - West End on the 4th

It’s a Tuesday and my regular Tuesday running partner is unavailable so I decided to knock off some west end streets for this project.  I mapped out a run, wanting about 7 miles, and thought this looked pretty good.

I didn’t notice until I was well into the run that it was set on km rather than miles.  More about that later.  I drove the ‘59 Volvo over to Boulder School and parked in their lot.

I got on my way through the neighborhoods.

I think this place on Poly has been quiet for a long time.

I got to 32nd and Parkhill and had to do an out and back on Parkhill.  On the way back these two little, innocent-looking girls threw a firecracker that went off right behind me.  I stopped, turned around, and told them that what they did was illegal and I was taking their picture and turning it over to the police.  The one on the right doesn’t look that impressed by what I said.

I continued on and a few blocks later I figured out that the distance was km and not miles.  OK, I figured that I’d get this portion of the run done, go home and make a map, and do a Part 2.

I went home, made up another map and headed back out.

This portion is very straight forward but I found a change along the way that shorthand it up.  It turned out that those two dead end streets on the lower left are connect by a green space so I took advantage of that.  

I ran back up to Avenue D and on the east end of it I had to go down Judd Circle, another other dead end but found a sidewalk shortcutting to Avenue C.  Nope, I wasn’t going to take it and went back up to Ave E and down Rehberg to C since I had to get that short piece of Judd between Ave D and Ave E.  All for 30 feet of road!!!

I headed west on Ave C that goes under a row of linden trees in front of a retirement home.  They smelled nice.

I got on Grand and looped back to Rehberg where I’d left my car.  Here’s the results of this portion:

That makes for 7.08 miles, which was my target distance for the day.

Run 077 - Around the Yellowstone Country Club

July 2, 2023

It’s supposed to be warm today so I went out at a bit after 6am and back to the Yellowstone Country Club to finish up most of that subdivision.

Since I’d done a bunch of it last Thursday it was a good chance to do the circle around it and pick up that long street on the north side.

The only issue is that run along Rimrock on the south side.  The is not much of a shoulder which means that when a can comes by I have to head off the road to make sure I don’t get hit.

There is a new development going in and while I will run on private roads, this one looks like it will be gated so I skipped it.

I did this loop off Rimrock.

Back on the highway I found a Craftsman 7/16” deep sock, 3/8” drive.  I’ll add that to my tool box.

I heard that this area wi;; be getting a roundabout.

That’s Phipps Park up there, a great place to go run.

This where I turn off the highway and head back into the Country Club.

This road connects the Country Club to Ironwood.  It appears neither neighborhood wants the other to commingle.

I finished up with no incident.  Another good day of running.

Run 076 - 3rd and 6th Cleanup by Metra

It’s another Saturday morning run and it was the usual crowd who showed up with the walkers outnumbering the runners.  I was not up to the usual 6 miles distance due to try to sort out a health-related issue and only to do planned 4 miles by taking 3rd to the Metra and 6th on the way back which would pick up a few blocks of each that I hadn’t run on yet.  Shelley was up for that so we headed out on what had to be one of the more boring runs I’ve done.  The route was so simple I didn’t even print out a map.

Out on one street and back on the other.  Boring but there were some interesting sights along the way.  Like this.  At first I thought it was a needle, not an unusual thing to see here but it turned out to be a pen refill.

It probably fell off a passing vehicle with this stuff which was nearby.

I see lots of these little liquor bottles around town.

This was a nice and shady tunnel.

This was in front of a welding supply place.

As you can see, this is the industrial part of town.

Near the end of 3rd we saw this.  Shelley suggested that it be titles “Do not leave your luggage unattended.”
