Run 170 - In the Heights between Hawthorne and Bitterroot

May 25, 2024

I’ve been traveling for the past few weeks (https://fjradventures.blogspot.com/) so this running project was on hold but it’s a beautiful morning and Shelley joined me for a 6.5 run in the Heights.  I made up a map and wasn’t too exited about it but it turned out just fine.

Before I left, I made a change to it in the upper-right to include Janie all the way from Bitterroot to the east.

We headed north on Columbine before making our first turn on Dublin for an out and back.

When we got to Anchor we were surprised to see that it’s been extended to the west for a 1/4 mile or so and new houses going up.  We looked at the map and tried to decided whether to run oit or not but ended up doing so.

Now that we had this added on we figured we could save one out and back if we modified the route but would still cover all the streets in this neighborhood.  We had some good laughs as we ran around the blocks and questioned “Haven’t we been here before?”

Here are some views from along the way.

We got back on Bitterroot and headed north on a new sidewalk.  There’s a bike path behind these houses.

We got to Wicks and headed west to Hawthorne.

An out and back on Caleb.  Nice homes here.

The street is missing something on Wicks.

We went north on Bitterroot again and turned east on Janie.  I saw a nice mural on a fence there.

We ran to the end of Janie and went south on Walter.  The homes on the east side are perched on a cliff with a great view of the valley.

Wicks, east of Bitterroot is getting some work done.

We continued south on Bitterroot and turned around at Dublin and headed back north.  When we passed Riverside Cemetery we stopped in for a look.  Shelley looked it up on the way home and said that it’s a country site where transients and others whose family don’t pick up the bodies end up.

We headed west on Shannon and I saw this art work.

Here are the stats but we’re not quite done.

On run 163 we passed a yard that had lots of irises planted and Shelley wanted to go back and see if they’ve bloomed.  While driving back up Bitterroot we notice the street Blarney.  How could we have missed that since we’d run past it twice?  So, on the way back we ran it.  It was only a few houses in length but it’s now done.

When we were getting ready to go I saw this dog across the street enjoying some family time.

That’s it.  A 6.5 mile day.
