Run 119 - Southside

September 23, 2023

It rained most of the.night so the decision whether or not to run this morning was made about 6:15 am when the rain stopped.  It was Saturday so I went to the Rim Runners meet up and, as usual, Shelley and I were the only runners.  We drove over to Orchard school and started on the map:

As runs go, this was one of the better ones.  The neighborhoods are so diverse there is always something interesting to see.

Here we are at the start: Orchard School.

Some of the places are fixers.

A nice garden.

The back side of of Orchard School.

An example of the homes on Viceroy,

A interesting culvert.

I had to look up this street name later and it turns out to be a type of tree.

I have no idea what this place is.

I was happy to find the little green structure where all this new construction is going on.

This is on Arden and the map showed that it went through but we had to cross sketchy bridge across a ditch in the bushes.

Here’s Arden from the other side.

OK, I’m not sure if this is a yard sale or just their yard.

Still some unpaved streets in this area.

A big Quonset hut.

An interesting set of row houses.

This place has some great stone work.

If you look closely at the bottom of the fence you’ll see the electric portion.  Whatever it is they are trying to keep it, it’s small.

This is the Ned of Mitchell.  There is a new affordable housing development on the left that I have a picture of later.

Here’s an older satellite view of this before it was developed.  Mitchell wasn’t even a street at the time,.

The streets Morgan and Ryan are getting new water mains so they are all torn up.  With last night’s rain, it was a muddy mess and we had to navigate carefully through here.

Some of the old pipe they’d removed.

A rare brick home.

The bark on this tree is awesome.

This guy has lots of motorcycles.

This is just off the corner of Jackson and King.

Lots of flowers.

Here’s a few photos of that affordable housing development.  Entry is off Jackson.

A couple of barking dogs.

I don’t want to contribute to stereotyping the Southside, but we did run past some law enforcement.

That was it.  A great run and no rain.
