Run 118 - The Private Run

September 22, 2023

I didn’t know if this run would happen because rain is predicted and, while I will run in wind, snow, ice, and low temperatures, rain is my least favorite condition.  Shelley and I agreed that the decision would be made at 5 am and, sure enough, she texted me then with the weather map that indicated rain at 5:30.  I went outside and it seemed dry enough and said we could go try it and bail out if we got into a downpour.

We met in the Kohls parking lots and ran west from there.  I needed to cover a bit of King and a short street behind the REI that I’d missed the other day.  We continued west to where my route map directed us south.  When we got there it turned out that all those streets were just the driveways for that apartment development.  We ran the first one and went down to the next one and discussed what we should do.

I don’t have a problem running on “Private” streets as long as there is no signage that warns “No Trespassing” and that they are actually streets but a driveway or parking lot isn’t really a street and I usually skip those.  That seemed to be the case for all the streets that my route map was directing us to on the west side of the run:

We decided to eliminate those areas that I marked with a red X and add in the roads that are highlighted in yellow.

I took some photos but it was really dark so the camera struggled for light.

It started raining, evidenced by the drops in the puddle.

The concrete plant.

The end of the road south of the conservation area.

Looking towards Sheels.

That was it.  We avoided much rain and, even with our route modifications, still managed to get in 5 miles.
