Run 089 - Around Burlington Park Area

July 31, 2023

After last Saturday’s 5K I was a bit sore, just a bit, and so I took yesterday off.  I want to do a 7 milers tomorrow so a 3-4 miler would be good today.  I looked at the map and saw that I needed to work on the streets below Grand Ave., west of 24th, so I made up this route:

There’s not too much doubling back and only a little on streets I’ve already done.  It’s a quiet Monday morning and fairly cool considering that it’s supposed to get to 96 degrees today.

I parked at Burlington School and got started.

This looks like a pony trailer.

Nice front yard garden.

This guy was barking at me from atop a kid’s play set.  I was hoping he’d head down the slide.

I had to do a short section of 24th Street West.

24th and Grand.

A long alley.

Holiday season all the time.

That was it.  About 3-1/2 miles.  Quite pleasant.

Run 088 - East of Temple

July 28, 2023

A nice cool morning and a chance to run a few more streets on the far West End of town.  Shelley wanted to do a Friday run so, since she has to be at work later, we go out at 5:30am and meeting on 38th Street has been on norm on these early outings.  I made up a map that would give us the best of 5 miles and cover some streets above Rimrock Road near to where we’d park.

We headed west on Rimrock and got to chatting and missed our turn on High Sierra, ending up a bit farther down the road that I’d planned.  We turned around and headed back the few block to make our turn.  The view:

We had a few out and back to do and on one of them there was a some new construction.

This small one was across from that big house and were trying to figure out what it was.

It wasn’t until we got above it on the next street that we saw that it was part of this other house, the one on the right, and likely a party house that goes with their new swimming pool.

There’s a nice view across the valley from here.

There is a pipe that runs from the bottom of the rim to the top.  Sort of hard to see.

Great morning skies today.

Turkey were out this morning.

A really small street but lots of cars live here.

That was it.  Instead of the predicted 4.8 miles we got in 5.4 due to missing that turn early on.

That neighborhood is a bit hilly too.

Run 087 - South of Central, West of 32nd

July 25, 2023

I had a routine dental appointment at 7am so I had to decided whether I’d run before or after that.  Before would mean heading out quite early which is no problem because I’m usually up by 5am but them I’d want to squeeze in a cool down and a shower before getting in the chair at the office.  Waiting until afterwards means dealing with some heat.  I decided to take on the heat.

I made up a planning map that would take in an area south of the dental office.  Get the teeth cleaned and go right into the run.

This is a residential area that’s been built in the past 10-20 years.  There are some single family homes but also some duplexes and fair number of apartments.  Actually, it’s quite boring as the homes all tend to be the same design type and beige is a color that dominates.  Why is it that beige is the default color of choice?  While I moved a bit when growing up, the family home was in a Southern California suburb where no two houses where the same color and the hues ran from yellow to green to red to blue to orange to turquoise.  It was the same with the cars of the era, a wide range of bright and distinctive colors unlike today’s maroon, white, black, and gray.

Here some photos from along the way:

I’d gone into this one neighborhood without noticing the “No Trespassing” sign.  Oh well, I ran it, got the mileage…

32nd Street and Central.  Nice oldie Porsche across the way.

Resurfacing Central.

That’s it.  It was starting to get warm so I was glad I was done.

Some final thoughts
