Run 047 - Rocky Village and some other stuff

April 7, 2023

Last week I might have been concerned about frostbite and this week it could be heat stroke.  That’s the thing about running in Montana’s spring, there isn’t much time to acclimate to the warmer weather and after months of freezing and sub-freezing conditions, it can be a shock to the system.

Today was reaching into the upper 50s when I headed out at 1pm.  I wanted to pick up a few more streets in my greater neighborhood and the streets though Rocky Village, a development of condos and townhouses south of Poly Drive and Rocky Mountain College.

Here is my planning map.

I kept to that route except for a loop that I wasn’t sure about but added when I got there.  It only added a couple hundred yards.

It was an enjoyable run and since it was almost all through residential streets it was pretty quiet and safe.  About halfway into the run I saw one of my art friends from MSUB and stopped to chat.  She’s a dog walker and was picking up a couple for their outing.  That added a bit of time to my run but I’m certainly not running for time, just distance on streets.  Here are some photos from the outing.

This home, above, used to the the house for the president of Rocky Mountain College back when it was a trade-type school and this area, west of the campus, was all agricultural land.  By the way, the school is on Poly Drive.  The school was formerly Rocky Polytechnical College.

Sidewalk just disappear…

Another gun reference.

We have people in the city who go bonkers over painting marking on sidewalks.  I sort of like them.

That’s the new science building at Rocky Mountain College.

Sidewalks are great, but here it’s safer to be in the street.

The BBWA canal.  It will start carrying water next week.

Another view of the canal.
