Run 048 - Downtown to Amend Park

April 8, 2023

It’s a Saturday morning run with the Rim Runners and, unlike in previous weeks, I have not prepared a mapped route.  I looked at areas I need to run and one of our regular routes would cover lots of new turf so I suggested that we do that.  Katie and Shelley were on board for that and already warmed up as they’d run 3 miles to get here.  They are training up for a race next month.

We headed west and when we got to 5th Street West we turned south and went through the underpass.  There’s a nice mural there.

We usually exit the underpass and cross and empty field by State Street but it was fenced off.  It looks like they are making some kind of retention pond so we had to detour a bit to get on Calhoun Lane.

We headed down Calhoun and turned on Phillip Street which head west, taking us into the playground of Newman Elementary School.

We crossed South Billings Blvd. to Amend Park.  There is an old barm on the property that the city uses for storage.

The park itself is large and pretty flat.  It’s a popular place for soccer and cross country meets.

From there we turned north and crossed the big highway, Laurel Road, which is the Interstate 90 business route.  We went up Moore Lane and then jumped over a block from Central to 10th Street West.  Now it was just a matter of winding our way back through the neighborhoods to where we started.  We ran on some of the streets, all of which I’ve already run for this project, before deciding to run some alleys.

We zigged and zagged our way before picking up the alley that put us into the rear yard of the Moss Mansion.

We finished up with a 6.2 for me and 9 miles for Shelley and Katie.
