Run 022 - The Y to Metra and Back

February 4, 2023

When Shelley texted me and asked what the route was for Saturday morning, I texted her this map.

Her response was that it looked boring.  Yes, I suppose that is does look that way but it still goes through an interesting part of town, semi-industrial, and it would be nice to just run some distance without having to stop and constantly look at the map.

When I got to the Billings YMCA for our usual Saturday morning Rim Runners meetup, Shelley, Bart the Dog, and I were the only runners.  I suppose the ice and snow on the roads probably discouraged a few from coming out.

We headed east on 4th and it was pretty quiet for a Saturday with light traffic on this usually well-traveled road.  It started getting light before we had gone too far and by the time we got to Main Street by the Metra, the sunrise was looking good.

Here we go along 2nd Street.

One of the tings runners do is look down, not just to keep from tripping over curbs and such but to see what interesting object can be found along the way.  This was my score today:

A few interesting sights are we got back into downtown:

We arrived back at 32nd Street and Shelley suggested that instead of heading back east on 1st, we should do it on Montana.  It doesn’t change anything distance-wise so we did that.  I should mention that she’s training for a half marathon and ran 5 miles before we started this morning’s run.

We got near the point where we turned north to get on 1st and stopped for a photo or two.

Bart the Dog is doing well but doesn’t like all this stopping.  A few block later I handed him off to Shelley so he could drag her in the last mile.

Finished up.

Here are the stats:

BTW, while not a count of the number of streets toward this project, I have now run about 120 miles towards it since the first of the year.
