Run 082 - Between 24th and Lillis Park

July 11, 2023

My regular Tuesday running partner, Jerry, is unavailable so I set up a route to pick off a bunch of streets west of 24th Street.  It was raining earlier so the streets were wet and the air felt humid.  This is a very uninspiring route as it’s just back and forth on residential streets that all look the same.  The map it look like climbing a ladder.   Here are some photos.

Run 081 - South more south side work

July 8, 2023

It’s a Saturday morning run with the Rim Runners and, as usual, it’s mostly walkers, so Shelley and I pursued this course:

We’ve already run the streets on the upper half so it’s 1-3/4 miles to get to “fresh” streets.  Since we tend to be the only ones who show up to run, we are considering changing the meetup place and parking somewhere closer to the streets we want to cover.

The houses of these streets were quiet and, for the most part, attractive and well-maintained.  Here are some views from along the way.

First we had to get by all the construction at the big underpass.

We didn’t have to run through neighborhood.

Shady street for the most part.

I’m not sure about this sign.

This is Alden Street.

Chicken coop.

A good run with some nice weather.  Oh, and I found a quarter.

Run 080 - More West End

July 7, 2023

Shelley told me she wanted to do another 5:30am run so we met at our usual spot on 38th Street West.  I did a planning map and it required a bunch of overlapping in order to cover the first block of streets.

We looped through this very quiet residential neighborhood which is pretty plain and unexciting.

When we finished that section up we were on Colton Blvd and had a nice view across the valley.

Those living on Colton better enjoy the view while they have it because “luxury” apartments are quickly filling the land.

This house made an effort to look a bit different.

Not weeds but plants for the pollinators.

I had this street on my map but, as I’ve decided, private roads I’ll run on unless they specifically say “No Trespassing” like this one.  No problem as we just ran down Zimmerman instead, another street that I needed to add eventually.

To add some distance, we took the bike trail to continue south on 38th across the ditch.  My map indicated that we’ve run this street, an out and back, but it was pretty clear they didn’t want mine there.

We did the next block as planned but made up for not running that one street by adding a block to the west.  When we got back we to 38th, we headed back north.  Here’s where the bike path crosses the ditch.

Another day, another run.

Run 079 - Hwy 3

July 5, 2023

It was the Wednesday night group run with the Rim Runners and we met up on the rims near the airport.  I hadn’t made a plan for this run as I usually do a loop around the east end of the rims with is mostly trails.  Tonight I thought about crossing the highway and doing an out and back on Rimtop Drive but traffic was so heavy I couldn’t cross.  By the time I’d abandoned that plan to rest of the runners and walkers had left so I decided to run solo going west and check out the new bike trail.  Since the bike trail parallels Hwy 3 west of the airport, I figured that this would count as running the highway itself.

I ran to the end of the concrete with is where I had turned off the highway a few weeks ago when I’d run coming the other way from Zimmerman so I now have this portion of the highway done.

Some final thoughts
