Run 037 - More of Downtown Billing

March 18, 2023

It’s  another Saturday morning run with the Rim Runners and Shelley and Katie were happy to join me on this alternate to the standard routes:

Part of it was to do some “clean up,” that is, run some streets that were leftover from other runs.  It’s hard not to have these orphans when planning routes without lots of going over roads I’ve already run.  The lower left section, that triangle, was just something that had to be done and it was OK.  It was plenty cool out, so cool that I actually had my long running pants on instead of just my usual shorts.

Like all these routes, I get to go down streets I’d never travel on and see sights that are new to me.  Hear a collection of photos from this morning.

We went past the skate park and Shelley did some grinding.

We got some cheers from these folks.

Run 036 - Around Hesper and Gabel Roads

March 15, 2023

It was a Wednesday night Rim Runners run and I veered off the usual route and had my own.  Shelley was happy to go along.  This took us through an area that is largely industrial so we went down streets we’d never been on before.  Here’s the planning map.

Thanks to daylight savings it was light out, but a bit cool and windy, however generally pleasant for a run.  The course is flat so no hill workout tonight.

I thought that this one looked like a Stonehenge.

I have no idea what they do here.

The end of Hesper Road.

More businesses with no idea of what they do.

This place takes care of dogs.

We finished up and Shelley had to do errands and I went in to Canyon Creek Brewing to join the others for social hour.  A fun evening.

Run 035 - More in Mid-Town

March 14, 2023

Another Tuesday run with Jerry and we covered lots of bits and pieces between Grand Avenue and Lewis Avenue between 5th and 18th.  The weather was amazing.  52 degrees F which is the warmest it’s been for running in months.

I planned out this route:

One of the upsides to the project is meeting up with streets I’ve never heard of:  Wunnicke Lane?

A couple views along the way:

We were a few miles into the run when I heard a big crash a block or two away.  It sounded like a big metal dumpster being dropped.  A bit later we heard sirens, lots of them.  At 15th and Lewis we found out why.

We made our way past that and I shot two more photos before we wound the run up.

Here’s the stats for today.

Run 034 - More around North Park

March 11, 2023

Wow, it was a might brisk this morning when I headed to the Y to if other Rim Runners were ready for a run.  There were 5 walkers and the only runners were me and Shelley.  I’d figured out a map last night and hadn’t counted on the weather: 20 degrees F with a steady wind making the real free about 1 degree.

The course picks up some north/south streets in the North Park area that I’d yet to run on.  When I finished laying it out I noticed that I’d missed an out and back I needed on 10th, just above Dehler Park, so I measure that and added it to the predicted total.

While it doesn’t look like it on the map, those street are mostly hills, especially the last block between 11th and 12th.  Add to that, the wind was coming from the north so we got plenty of resistance training today.  Some views along the way:

At one point, someone needed a comfort stop so we headed over to Starbucks on 27th.  I took a few photos there.

We got back to it and I made a wrong turn we we ran down a street we’d already run up so we had to turn around and run up it again.  There’s lots to see in this part of town.  Here two things I took photos of, an old cabin and an old Volvo.

And this house with a windmill:

We got it done and headed back to the Y and passed this building on 6th, which I was told was sold to one of the hospitals and might become a parking lot.

We survived and when I reached to turn off my watch our distance was 6.66 miles but I was a hundredth of a second late for catching it.
