Run 151 - A 5K in the Heights

January 6, 2024

The Yellowstone Rim Runners is hosting a winter race series called Catch Me If You Can with 4 races over December through March.  Runners provide their predicted pace for their first race and the are given a start time with the idea that everyone will finish at the same time.  I missed the first race (I was in Arizona) but signed up for the 2nd one with a predicted pace of 11 minutes/mile.  The course was on the bike path on Wicks in the Heights and I realized that it’s a piece of road I haven’t run yet so I get a twofer when I run it.

It was cold and windy and the race was fun, more or less, with lots of hills in that short distance.  I didn’t think to take any photos but here are my stats.

Run 150 - The Height of the Heights

January 3, 2023

This route was supposed to be run a few Saturdays ago but things changed so it was put on hold and with my upcoming outage around the corner, it seemed like tonight would be a good time to get it in the books.  I picked Shelley up from her work and we drove out to the Heights and got started on the run about 5:45pm when it was already dark.  It was cold too.  Here’s the planning map.

It looks confusing because it is with lots of out and backs and curves.  Not shown on the map are the hills, lots of them, eventually taking us to highest point in this area.  As is the case with these dark runs, not many photo opportunities but here are a few.

This is from near the corner of Antelope and Agate, looking south.

A little further along Antelope looking toward the rims.

Shelley ahead of me on Antelope.

A bog house with a good view.

We ran up Skyline which goes to the highest point in these neighborhoods.  There is a city water tank here.

Looking back from the water tank.

Looking northeast from Skyline.

We were up there.

A family.

He was barking at us.

Like I said, there were hills.

We finished up and I felt pretty hammered.  I’d run 7.5 miles the day before and the distance and the hills did me in tonight.

Some final thoughts
