Run 053 - Hesper and Gabel

April 19, 2023

It was time for a Wednesday evening run with the Rim Runners and the meeting place is Canyon Creek Brewing so that’s a good draw BUT it’s been windy and snowing most of the day and motivation was low.  However, about 5pm the precipitation stopped and I actually saw the sun through the clouds so I got my running gear on and headed to the meet up.

I had made a map so I was prepared to nail a few new streets and when I got there the snow was just starting again, mixed with some rain, and the only other runner was Shelley.  There were a handful of walkers.  Shelley and I both whined about the conditions which is funny because we have run in much worse than this during times of very heavy snow and sub-zero temperatures but we have a strong disdain for running in the wet and it was tempting to just bag the run and go inside and drink a beer.  We headed out anyway.

Here’s my map:

We followed the map and stopped whining about a mile into the run as it became quite comfortable despite the drizzle of rain mixed with snow.  Shelley had a wet foot having stepped into a pot hole on Hesper and then we both got wet feet running in the grassy area along Gabel.  I wish there was something more exciting to say about the course but it’s really pretty boring: hotels, restaurants, warehouses, office building.  Here’s a few photos:

When we wrapped it up we did join the now-returned walkers at the brewery for a refreshment and some good conversation.

Run 052 - More Southside

April 15, 2023

Another Saturday morning run with the Rim Runners and it was just me, Shelley, and Katie to do this mapped route through the Southside of Billings:

It was cool out due to the rain we had overnight but pretty prefect running weather.

We stuck to the map and went up and down the Southside streets as shown.  It was quiet out and there were interesting sights along the way.

Run 051- Rimrock Hills

April 12, 2023

It was a Wednesday night run with the Rim Runners and since we were at Pioneer Park and most of the easy streets in the area I’ve already run for this project, I mapped out a route to pick up some of the hilly streets above Rimrock Road.  I’ve been doing these a little at a time because they make for a tough workout.  They are steep and are dead ends so it’s up and back on each one.  Shelley was the only one interested in the route so it was just the two of us as the other runners (I think there were 3) did the traditional (boring) route.

We knocked off the first two streets and on the third, Ronan, she texted her aunt who lives on that street and told her to look out the window.  She was on the porch as we came down the hill and we stopped to chat for a moment but didn’t lose momentum.

When we got to the top of Upper Highwood, we saw there was an easement, probably covering the ditch that runs through there, that let us hop over to the next street without having to run up it.  That’s not cheating!  All I have to do is run the street once.

Here’s some photos from the outing.
