Run 092 - More of the Southside

August 5, 2023

It’s another Saturday morning run and instead of meeting with the Rim Runners at the Y, Shelley and met, again, behind Newman Elementary school to work on more streets in that neighborhood.  The run really had two parts: 1) pick up some streets to the west of South Billings Blvd and that Blvd. itself and 2) streets between there and Hallowell.  It took a long out and back on South Billings Blvd. but it was sort of pleasant out, quiet, with a hint of humidity.

The first bit of business was to run most of Morey St. which is graveled and runs between a ncouple of industrial sites.

We turned off onto Wonderpark to pick up a short piece of that before heading east on Underpass or State, depending on which lane one chooses.

We approach the work being done on the Underpass.

Here’s a better view of what they are up to.

We continued east on State Ave.

We did have to loop back to pick up a piece of Wonderpark and then do the out and back on South Billings Blvd before heading east again on State. This is a shopping center on State.

A small park behind Orchard Elementary school.

There are some open fields tucked away in this area.

A pretty cool looking house with a putting green.

A log cabin.

King Avenue East.

A lot with some apple trees.

We arrived back at our starting point having cover about 1/2 mile more than my map predicted.

Run 091 - More West End Below the Rims

August 4, 2023

It’s another 5:30am Friday run with Shelley to check off a few more streets.  On the Friday mornings we’ve been working our way through the West End near Shilo and Rimrock and today we finished a block of streets that we’d outlined last week.

I wasn’t inspired to take many photos as the route just wasn’t that inspiring.

This guy just watched us go by.

This wild field was turned into Rimpoint Park a few years ago.

That was it.  About 5-1/2 miles in comfortable weather, some hills to add some resistance, and finished off another block of streets.

Run 090 - To Gotham Park

August 1, 2023

It’s Tuesday so it’s a Long Run day where I try to get about 7 miles in.  The route I came up with was a bit shy of 7 but I figured that it was close enough.

This continues on south of where I ran yesterday and picks up a few streets that I’d missed on some earlier runs.  It was in the low-70s so I didn’t feel like pushing it.  I am much happier running in the 30s.

The route takes me through mostly residential areas with about 1/3 multi-family and the rest single family residences.  I got started early: 5:40am.

A modernist look compared to the rest of the neighborhood.

A brick house.

This alley seems to go one forever.

A long run down Custer.

Near Broadwater and 24th Street West.

I did a loop around Gotham Park.

A pretty nice run and very quiet out.  That’s an advantage of getting out early.

Some final thoughts
