Run - 018 - Downtown Parking Garages

January 28, 2023

It was cold out this morning, 17 degrees, and it was snowing and had been overnight.  It was a Saturday morning run with the Rim Runners and there were 4 of us brave souls who showed up: me, Shelley, Cameron, and John.  Our backup run when the weather is like this is to run the parking garages downtown.  This has two advantages: a hill workout and while inside them we are avoiding most of the snow and ice.  Here are some photos of the run.

Shelley got his photo of me and Bart the Dog.

We didn’t hit our usually 6-miles but with all the hills we figured what we did was good enough.  Here’s the stats:

I don’t know what that read line is.  It’s some kind of anomaly with the GPS.  Here’s what pretty cool.  The GPS does track my movements inside the parking garages.

While not covering many streets that I hadn’t already run on, there were a few so those have been added to my master map.

Run 017 - YRR Run with hills

 January 25, 2023

It was a Wednesday night run with the Rim Runners and rather that map out a different route, I suggested a modification to the one we usually do.  Shelley and Diana were up for that so we ran from Angry Hanks Microbrewery up to the university campus, cut west to get on the south end of Normal Ave. and took that to Rimrock, doing an out and back on Marbera along the way so now those two streets are covered.  Once up on Rimrock we headed west and went up and down several of the streets that go up to the base of the rims and where 27th Street goes up to the airport.  Those hills were dark and icy.

We did Lions Lane, Ryneke Drive, Chapman Lane, and James Street.  A couple of them had a Y at the top so we had to do out and backs on those.  To keep out total run at around 5-miles we skipped the next couple streets and headed south on Highwood Drive and then back to Hank’s.  Cool down was assisted by an adult beverage.

Run 016 - Back to North Park

January 24, 2023

It was Tuesday so it was a regular weekly run with Jerry and he had to objections to picking up where we left off last week, hitting the streets around North Park.  I’d made a map and tried to pick off as many streets as I could and still keep our distance to the usual 7.25 miles.

It was a leisurely and, thankfully, uneventful tour.  Here’s what we saw along the way:

And, of course, the stats for the run.

Run 015 - Ironwood 2

January 22, 2023

First off, I forgot my watch so I couldn’t track the run with GPS. It still counts, doesn’t it?

I went back to the Ironwood subdivision and get the southern half which was about 3 miles of streets.  Here’s my planning map:

I parked at the same park I did last Friday when I ran the northern section and the ran down to the corner of Sandalwood and Parkwood Drives to start the run.  Here’s the start:

I saw some new construction through the neighborhoods.  Look at this one: 9 garages.  That would work for me.

I decided to take photos of dogs that bark at me.  They seem friendly but I’m glad they are deterred from chasing by their invisible fences.

I ended up back at the entryway roundabout and show another photo of the flagpole.

I continued on and at the bottom of one street there is a gated road that separates Ironwood from the riff-raff over at the Yellowstone Country Club.

Another barking dog:

While neighborhood is pretty neat and tidy, I did see this:

Another dead end for an out-and-back.

I was running along and felt something brush against the back of my leg.

It ran off and I decided not to pursue it and kept going.  I got back to my car at 3:38 which meant the run took me 48 minutes.

There was another dog barking at me.

That’s it.  Ironwood is done.

Run 014 - Mountain View

January 21, 2023

Today was the Saturday morning run with the Yellowstone Rim Runners.  We decide the route by consensus from the half dozen or so that we do and today it was Mountain View.  This worked well for me since I hadn’t run it as part of the project yet but I had run a few of the streets to get there already.  Below I show 2 maps, each showing what “new”streets were covered today.  We run from the YMCA up to the university parking structure, go through that to the tunnel under 27th Street, and then up the hill to Mountain View.  After that we get off the streets and run the trail along the bank of the BBWA canal.  Once to the east end of the run we get on 3rd and head west back into downtown.

Here’s the starts for the overall run:
